This image really share the bride's excitement as she makes her big entrance through the smoke. This was taken at a very established wedding venue in Leichardt,  in western Sydney. We had got back from the location shoot around Sydney harbour quite late and I barely had time to get my flashes out before the bridal party starting coming through. I would have loved to have featured more of the people in the reception party in the shot but then I wouldn't have had a clear shot of the bride's dress and I wasn't prepared to lose that.

Sometimes when you are shooting at a wedding you have to make snap decisions and I always try and go with my heart. Normally it knows best. What was important was to wait as the bride emerged from the smoke. Flashes take a little time to recycle so you can't just use the motor drive and spray and pray. Of course, you never know exactly how the person will move but experience and anticipation do play a huge part in making sure that you get the final result that you were going for.

It is on my to do list to buy some kind of smoke bombs and use them on a location shoot, but that will just have to wait for another day.

I always strike up a rapport with the wedding venue co-ordinators and ask lots of questions. Where do the bridal party enter? Which way around the tables will they walk? I also ask the party if they are going to do any special dances or such like as they come in so that I am not caught off guard and blocked from taking the shot.

"We wanted to thank you for... being you. You have an amazing talent as a photographer. The photos in the highlights reel are so expressive, so natural and each one tells a story. But what we will remember is not a photographer but a friend who walked with us through our wedding journey, adding to the richness of our day and immortalising our memories." Stewart and Sarah 2016

If you want a Byron Bay wedding photographer to reveal the real story of your wedding and relive the emotion of the day for decades to come, then read on.

Many of my photographs are taken on the outskirts of the wedding; those moments which so many photographers seem to miss or don't look for.
My name is 'J' Miller and I am based in Byron Bay, but most of my weddings seem to involve me getting on a plane to somewhere or other, which I love. I am proud to be an accredited member of the AIPP and the elite band of worldwide rebels, The Fearless Photographers. I also possess a BA (Hons) 1st Class in Photography and have been photographing full-time since 2001. Outside of photography I am a stand-up comedian, author of The Art of Husbanding, a devoted husband and doting father of two. Please don't read on. It's all SEO babble!
